Bukas Ulit

Bukas Ulit! 🇵🇭

Remember opening your lunchbox at school only to find your food packed in a Magnolia ice cream tub, a Cool Whip container or last week’s Chinese takeout box? 😂

You either knew exactly what was inside or spent a few seconds wondering what your parents packed for you. And sometimes, the real surprise was opening it up to leftover lumpia, pancit, adobo, sinigang, or even …mungo.

Designed by Filipino artist and illustrator Kody Ignacio (@comic.kody), Bukas Ulit! celebrates the childhood memories so many Filipino Americans share. From the random containers our parents repurposed to the baon they lovingly packed for us, these little moments hold stories that go far beyond what was inside our lunchboxes.

Maybe we were embarrassed by our baon back then. Maybe we wished we had what everyone else was eating. But looking back, we can see the love behind it all. Our parents made use of what they had and made sure we were fed, even if our lunch looked like it came straight out of the butter aisle. 😂

At LOOK YAY!, we believe culture lives in the everyday things we remember. The food we grew up eating, the containers we carried to school, and the little things our families did that we didn’t fully appreciate until we got older. Sometimes, the memories we once felt embarrassed about become the ones we hold closest to our hearts.

Bukas ulit!
Until tomorrow.
Until the next meal.
Until we get to do it all over again.

Because sometimes, love looks like leftovers in a container that was never meant to hold them.
